About the farm
Welcome to Kleinbergskloof Olive Estate – a family farm producing phenomenal olives.
We bought the farm in 2001, planted our first trees in 2005 and extracted our first oil in 2013. When the quality of our oils proved to exceed even our wildest expectations – winning Gold with our Estate Blend in the very first year we entered the SA Olive Competition – we knew we wanted to expand our orchards. We now have around 4 000 trees covering 10ha and if you have a little look at the hills behind the house, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re in the Italian countryside.
Being based on the banks of the beautiful Goukou River in Stilbaai, we are not just blessed with a cool coastal climate ideal for growing olives, but also specific limey soils that give our olives a very distinct and special taste. The cultivars we grow and use for our award-winning Estate Blend are Mission, Coratina, Leccino and Frantoio. Although the yield in this region is somewhat lower than in the rest of the Western Cape, the unique quality of our oil more than make up for it. Following our first award back in 2013, we are proud and humbled to have scooped up an additional 6 Gold awards, and be included in SA Olive’s prestigious ABSA Top 10 for two years in a row! Our latest vintage, the 2021 Kleinbergskloof Estate Blend is now available.
As a boutique producer, we bottle only around 6 000 litres of olive oil per year. By keeping our production small, we are able to control every aspect of the production process and ensure premium quality year in and year out.
From producing our own compost to harvesting our olives, everything on the farm is done by hand, with lots of love and help from workers from the area. After carefully picking, washing and sorting our olives, we complete the process of pressing and blending the oils to produce our unique Extra Virgin Cold Extracted Olive Oil.
Thank you for visiting! We hope you enjoy your time on the farm as much as we do.
Find us on the banks of the beautiful Goukou river in Stilbaai. We are an easy 26km from the N2 high-way and a 3.5 hour drive from Cape town.
